PBSA vs. OJT
10/15/2009

Hey, gang! I hope the New Year finds you all healthy and happy. I had a wonderful holiday season and I hope you did as well.

Today I want to talk a little bit about the value of attending a Professional Bartending School of America campus versus trying to find a place to hire and train you as a bartender, otherwise known as on-the-job training or O.J.T.

Recently a friend of mine asked me, "Why would I go to bartending school when I could just learn how to bartend on the job?"

The simple answer to that question is that most employers don't want to have to train a bartender from the "ground up" as it were. Employers want to hire someone who already has the basic skills necessary to be a great bartender and then teach them all the company-related specifics like house policies, procedures and recipes.

In these unstable economic times, businesses are focusing on their bottom line, now more than ever. Training takes time, and time, after all, is money. Why would someone hire you, only to have to train you, when they can hire one of our grads and get a ready-made bartender? (Professional Bartending Schools of America offers a 40-hour course designed to get our graduates working immediately!!!)

Our grads are trained and ready to work. They have been instilled with the idea that they must conform to the policies and procedures for the place they end up working, they understand the value of adaptability, and moreover they know what it takes to not only make their guest a great drink, but to do so with the utmost professionalism and efficiency!

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more fun from behind bars!
